I am just about done with school and the only thing I am having trouble with is trying to afford a professional machine and software. What did you guys do when you first started working? Take out a bank loan? Anywhere online you can recommend for a used professional writer? Anything would help me out right now because I am clueless! Thanks:)

I think Stenograph does financing if you buy from them. Also they will take your student machine for credit toward a professional writer (but maybe only if it came from them, I'm not sure). That's who my school goes through for everything and that's what our teachers are recommending.

If you did want to go used, there are always used machines for sale in the JCR (periodical published by NCRA).

Hi my name is Mellina,

I am very curious if there is anyone out there who has taken court reporting on line. I have been in class for almost two years and i'm only at 80's-100's but i ran into some personal problems where i was withdrawn anyway i love the program and i desprately want to finish but i am moving to Minnesota and there are no schools what so ever there that offer court reporting so my only option is to do on line and i'm curious to know if its harder or if its pretty easy. I dont know if i would actually be able to get everything i need to know out if it through the computer. Im a little old fashion i like learning through people. Any advice?

Mellina,

What a lovely name you have. Can you please tell me how hard it is to get up to that speed. I live in WI and it says you have to get up to 200 something.. I think. How hard is it to learn. I don't want that to discourage me.. wanted to send this to you.. since you sound positive. Its an associates where I am also.. But.. shouldn't you be at a much higher speed after all this time? Please enlighten me. Thank You Leah

Hi,

I am going to be going into this .. as well. I have to first take a typing course to pass 50 speed. and any other pre reqs. I live in WI.. its full time for 2 years for an associates at a County College. Was yours the same amount of time. How hard was it to learn and get up to that high high speed? Do you plan to work through a job agency for Court Reporters. What is the average yearly wage if you work full time when you start. I know.. its pretty high. Thank You...

Also the instructor told me you can rent them pretty cheapper month..until you get your first check or so.
